IF YOU NEED CONFETTI-FILLED BALLOONS, pineapple piñatas, or dinosaur napkins—and really, who among us doesn’t?—and you live in the Tanglewood/Memorial area, you’re in luck: Beloved Rice Village party supply store Emerson Sloan today announced the opening of its second location at 1319 S. Voss.
Construction has already begun on the 1,700-square-foot store that’s expected to open in late March. “Many of our clients live or work in this area, and we wanted to bring Emerson Sloan’s products closer to our customers,” says owner Kim Etheridge, who named the store for her two daughters.
That means more of the curated goods Etheridge is known for in her (nearly) five-year-old Rice Village outpost (which moved 10 doors down the street from 2414 to 2438 Rice Boulevard last fall), like novelty gifts and funky party accessories for a slew of themes. The second location will offer the same services as the first, including delivery service, rental pieces, and the much-loved balloon bar.
It’s also an opportunity to expand Emerson Sloan’s existing community service projects—Etheridge hosts charity fundraisers and also volunteers throughout the year at The Birthday Party Project, a charity that hosts monthly birthday parties for children at homeless and transitional living facilities.
Emerson Sloan also plays host to monthly customer appreciate events with party-themed activities for shoppers of all ages—last Cinco de Mayo, for instance, brought boozy cupcakes and spicy margaritas to the Rice Village store alongside holiday-themed novelties like giant flower crowns and taco-shaped balloons. That kind of fun is Emerson Sloan’s specialty.
“We look forward to being part of the Memorial/Tanglewood community and helping both existing and new customers with their party planning,” Etheridge says.
